Benjamin von Reiche was born in New York and began his musical studies on the piano at age nine. He grew up in Berlin, Paris and New Mexico and received his initial voice training from Mark Gruett of the Deutsche Oper Berlin before commencing his studies in vocal performance and conducting at the Oberlin Conser-

vatory in Oberlin, OH. He has worked extensively with Howard Lubin and Ks. Wolfgang Millgramm, as well as Marylin Horne, Richard Miller and Barbara Schlick.

 

Early on, he gained first stage experiences with the roles of MACHEATH in Gay’s Beggar’s Opera and MONDGROOM in Linke’s Frau Luna. He also sang MERCURIO in a German-Montenegrin production of Monteverdi's L’incoronazione di Poppeia, which was premiered in Kotor and at the Royal Theater Zetski Dom in Cetinje, Montenegro. During the course of his studies at Oberlin, he was taking part in several opera productions; he embodied LYSANDER in Britten's A Midsummer Night's Dream as well as PRINCE CHARMANT in Massenet's Cendrillon and TAMINO in Mozart's Magic Flute as well as LIBERTO in L'incoronazione di Poppea.

 

In the summer of 2011, the tenor gave his German debut singing Tamino at the Kammeroper Frankfurt. The same year, he was presented with of stipend of the International Richard-Wagner-Society for the year 2012. He could recently be heard in the role of ERICH in a production of Die Comedian Harmonists by Gottfried Greifenhagen & Franz Wittenbrink at the Kammeroper Frankfurt. In August, he will be singing DON OTTAVIO in Don Giovanni at the 33rd Bad Hersfelder Opera Festival.
